Comments:

Did not get into teaching until age 50 when I went back to school then to get an education degree. Then at age 58 I went back to get a Masters in Education. I guess 4 years of a great education at McBride left a long lasting impression on me.

Fifteen years later I retired from teaching in 2014. Now I work part time at a golf course (which saves me a lot of money in keeping my handicap in single digits).

To help out a friend who is on the Board of charter school, I taught PE two hours a day for the 2014/15 school year. There was no gym so we just played soccer, kickball, wiffle ball, volleyball, capture the flag, and flag football in a park a 1/2 mile from the school. So I walked 2 miles/day plus doing the activity on days that we had an odd number of students. I choose not to do PE for the 2015/16 school year given that I lost 10 lbs and am now down to 155 lbs (10 lbs less than when I graduated).

School Story:

Being entertained by Bill McDermott's sense of humor during soccer practices always stood out.

Also, I am appreciative of how much I learned from our teachers (especially Brother Donald Daut in Biology when he taught us about the research done on DNA by Watson & Crick).

MAYBE HE REMEMBERS THIS STORY BUT I'LL UNDERSTAND IF HE DOESN'T!

Brother Jorn must have received a copy of John Updike's BOOK Rabbit Run and asked me if I would read it as he didn't have the time to review it anytime soon (it was probably 1965). I believe Bro. Jorn mentioned that Christian theology had an influence on Updike's work as did Catcher in the Rye author, J.D. Salinger. Given that I loved Salinger's two books, I thought "sure I'd give it a read." Yikes! Rabbit Run's depiction of marital infidelity and (hmm, how do I say this in a Catholic website?) "sexual detail" went far beyond Catcher in the Rye and would give Philip Roth's "Portnoy's Complaint" a run for its money.

A few days after I returned the book he quietly said to me, "have your parents or anyone at school seen you reading that book." He apologized profusely and said that he was not aware of how explicit the book was. I assured him that my lips would be sealed and jokingly asked him if I needed to go to confession. I'm sure the Archbishop of the St. Louis diocese isn't going to reprimand him for this funny incident that happened nearly 50 years ago and I hope that his fellow brothers in India won't rib him too much.

Are you considering going back to St Louis for the Sept 10 McBride golf tournament?

Your big "70" is coming soon. As the youngest in the class of '66, 9/6/48, I hated being the last one to drive and then in college being the last to turn "21" but now I'm happy to be the last to become an official senior citizen. And, I still haven't aged a bit, huh?

Any timeframe on when you and your wife might be "cruising" through NM or when this year's golf tournament is scheduled? I had fun playing last year even though you weren't part of Team Windish!

R.I.P. Wiz.

I remember Bill McDermott calling one of the Wiz's shot on goal "a frozen rope."  My shots, if I got one off, always looked like the "shot-tracker trajectory " on the Golf Channel!  The GK could actually  call for a           "fair catch."

P.S.-What's the word about a 50th Reunion.  Someone trying to ban a retired "Breaking Bad" Econ teacher from New Mexico?  I think it's due in 2016 if my stats are correct.
