After graduation I attended the University of Missouri and got my bachelor's degree in journalism in 1968. I served in the Army from January 1969 to December 1971. I was an administration specialist (file clerk) at the Pentatgon for about a year and then at a signal base in Italy, not too far from Florence. After the Army I worked as a copy editor at a couple of newspapers in Arkansas, then moved to Kentucky and settled in at the Lexington Herald-Leader, where I stayed for 29 years. I returned to the St. Louis area (Go Cards!) in the fall of 2019 and bought a home in Northwest County where I grew up so many years ago. I'm retired now and enjoying my free time.
