After high school I entered the Passionist Fathers Monastery. Noviciate year in Detroit and first year professed in Louisville, KY Bellarmine College. Left the monastery after a conflict with the Rector over my participation in Civil Rights activity. Had the privilege of being at a strategy meeting and later marching with Dr. King. (Note: Have a response letter from Dr. King, June 22, 1964 as a result of Brother Rechtien's class that lead to me joining the St. Louis Junior Catholic Inter-racial Council0.
Worked at the Boys Club of Louisville then Herbert Hoover Boys Club of St. Louis.

Most memorable: Brother Davenport coming into history class with tears in his eyes at 12:30pm, November 22, 1963 to announce that JFK had been assasinated.
Brother Rechtien's class in Junior year when I gave a speech on Open Housing in St. Louis and the later fallout in Fr. Search's class out on the field across the street afterwards. Apologies rec'd at our 25th class reunion.
Remember the four years of Track and Field, esp. the 2-mile relay with Dale Isler Matt Rupp and Joe Witte and the dashes and relays with Ronnie White. And my classmates from St. Gregory the Great who attended McBride who stood by me.
